How many in each session?
For the adult camps our capacity is 16 - 2 per cabin (semi private accommodation.) For the parent/child weekend camps we have room for 6 families or 6 parent/child combinations. Sometimes we are able to accommodate more, depending if more clients want to share. There is room for 4 per cabin and we have a cabin which holds 6.
I haven’t ridden for quite some time, what are the levels of your riders?
We accommodate all levels of riders, from total beginners to advanced riders and have horses suitable for all categories.
Do I have to jump?
No, we have a lot of adults that just want to work on their flat work.
Can we go out riding on our own and/or do you do trail rides?
Our horses are not trail horses and we do not do trail rides. We do instructional riding only. Sometimes the real experienced riders are allowed to do a ride outside the arena, instead of their lesson, but that is at the digression of the instructor.
Does everyone come in groups?
No, we get a lot of students that come by themselves, but leave having made many friends and keep in contact with them throughout their lives.
Do you provide pickup from the airport or bus depot?
We provide pickup from the Kelowna airport, ¾ hour away for a fee of 45.00 each way or you can rent a car from the airport. Bus station pickups are from Vernon at a cost of $20.00 each way.
If I am flying in do I need to bring bedding?
If you are flying in we supply bedding and towels.
I have a friend who does not want to ride. Can they come?
By all means. We have rates for those that do not want to ride, but just stay here and have meals and accommodation only.
What do you do when you are not riding?
This is a relaxing weekend on the ranch. By the time you have ridden twice, groomed your horse twice, tacked up and un tacked each time, watch some lessons, meals, there is not a lot of time left. We usually have a massage therapist on call and we have the hot tub ready for any aches you may develop. If you want to hike we have 100 acres to explore or there are other hiking trails nearby. Vernon is only 20 minutes away and Lumby is 15 minutes away if you want to go to a town. Some groups do evening games of cards, pictionary, charades, karaoke and have campfires etc.
Is there things for my husband to do if he decides he doesn’t want to ride?
There are fishing lakes nearby, lots of golf courses also a tourist attractions. For more information on things to do in the area, go to: www.welcometovernon.com or www.virtualvernon.com or www.vernonchamber.ca
For the parent/child weekends, is it possible to bring along another child who is not a member of our family?
Yes, you can bring along friends of the family.
Do we ride on the Friday, which is arrival day?
Friday you arrive between 5:00 and 6:00 for dinner and this is an opportunity to meet everyone and get evaluated and find out what group you are in, which horse you will be riding as well as the schedule for the weekend.
I might not be able to make it in time for the 6:00 dinner time.
If you are not able to meet this schedule, you can always grab something on the road and get here when you can.
Are there any weight restrictions?
We go by the Texas rule which allows a horse to carry only 20% of its weight which means no more than 200 pounds for the average horse.
Can I bring my own horse?
Yes, but we do not accept horses without proper training as we do not have the time to train your horse during these weekend sessions., only the rider.
